Hi Everyone, I've just joined the forum. I have a 1976 Z900 A4 that I've owned since about 1980. I have 2 other bikes and It's not been used for quite some time, so I've decided to get it back on the road in 2018. It'll need a fair bit of work & some parts so thought that it was high time to join the forum.

Welcome.
Presume a much rarer UK model if you've owned it since 1980.
Plenty of A4 owners on here and a wealth of knowledge about the last Z1.
Enjoy.

Thanks for the welcomes folks. No pics for a while as I'm a bit embarrassed about the state of my Z900 and will need to give it at least some restoration before I dare show it. It's been a lot of years and will need a fair amount of re-chroming so it'll have to be a rolling resto. I'm off for a few weeks to HK in Feb to meet with a friend who lives there so it'll be April before my Z comes out of the garage into the light of day. First thing I'll need is likely to be an oil filter, followed by taking the carbs off to clean the gunk out of them. I'm tempted to start earlier but know it'll mean I'll end up with parts all over the place.

That's an interesting comment, mine's almost certainly a genuine UK model, I bought it from a fella in Tadley near to Reading & Basingstoke. Any way to be sure from the frame number etc?

Should be on the log book, ie date of registration. or previously registered overseas.
Gen UK bikes are MUCH rarer and differ from your A-Typical Yank import in several ways, for Eg long rear mudguard, twin discs as standard, seat strap, grab rail, indicator and rear light lenses, metal plug caps etc etc.
All things being equal a properly restored original UK bike will always command a premium over an import so if you are planning on putting it back to how the good people at KHI intended then it's worth getting the right UK bits in the right places even though in some cases they'll cost more and be harder to source.
Here's a little light reading to get you started.....

Interesting stuff!
Mine has twin front discs for sure & IIRC it had a seat strap but I think I took it off when I put a new seat cover on a while back. I'll check the V5 when I get some time later on.

Nobody was parallel importing Zeds in 1980 if you’ve owned it since then almost definitely it won’t have come from anywhere else than a UK dealer.
They’re all imports anyway...

Yes with Pics, the worse it looks at the start the more praise as you go will be heaped upon you.
Re: Just Joined
Thanks for all the encouragement, but it's too cold, grey & windy right now to re arrange my garage. I could take a pic of the plastic cover I suppose, but I'm sure to get some well deserved ribbing for that. When some nice, bright semi warm weather comes along I'll shuffle things around. I'll also be on the lookout for some vacuum gauges at some point.
