Hello

#1 PostAuthor: Supergas » Fri Oct 12, 2018 2:15 pm

Been around here for a while but just confirmed my full membership to the club.
Been riding since the late 70's and owned numerous bikes over that time. Current stable includes a Z1b (in 'A' colours), a '97 ZRX, '79 DT250 and a Victory Jackpot.
This winters project is, ideally, to build a new engine for my Z assuming I can find a donor (current ad. on the wanted page).
Always happy to engage and hopefully look forward to meeting other members here. Cheers
Mark

Hi Supergas
wellcome to the club! Nice Z1B in a Z1A robe you have there.
Why do you need an engine? Tell us more about it...

Thank you for the kind remarks, certainly not a trailered show bike, but is a very clean (and reliable) ride, that looks great with a polish.
So the engine currently in the bike is a Z1a lump while the bike is actually a Z1b, its a convincing A because she also has the corresponding nearside panel, oil tank badging etc.
I have the corresponding B cases but not a lot else, hence the requirement for a donor engine. Once the rebuilt engine is complete she will be painted in correct B livery (Blue), basically returned to original.
The current A engine is likely to be used for a possible 'Sanctuary' style project I have in mind. I know its a lot of work and some friends have suggested I use the current engine to provide the parts for the rebuild .... just cant bring myself to break a really good Z1a engine.
Have been building a new workshop so everything has slowed for a time, allowing me to locate / purchase what I need.
In for the long haul on this one

Hi Mark
it's a bit clearer now, thank you.
Z1A and Z1B engines are not that much different exept for some details that a rivett counter like me will notice but others probably won't. An engine below approx.Z1E45.000 is indeed a Z1A engine, so what.
If it's a good ride and you can depend on it why take the chance of building in an unknown engine? After all they're more than 40 years old. If you have a reliable engine keep it that way!
I have a spare Z1B engine but it's missing the cylinders and pistons . I don't intend to sell it but I would consider a swap for a complete Z1000ST engine. I live in Belgium, if you can find an engine in the UK don't hesitate.

Veh nice!
The Z1A colour schemes are my favourite on the early 'Zeds' - closely followed by the Z1B colours.
