Hi All, so, have a 1979 Z1000ST, purchased in 1988, ridden daily until 1999 with approx. 125K on the clock, which had to come off the road as it was going to cost loads to get through the MOT even back then (lots pretty much worn out), as I didn't drive back then needed transport so bought another bike. The Z has been in the garage since then. With the advent of a son & various bits & pieces (think its called life) getting in the way (including finally learning to drive which, lets face it, after 25 years on bikes alone did make life bloody easier) it has just been standing in the garage all this time. Through some fairly random recent circumstances finally sold the other bike, which had also been just sat in the garage for 10 years, as a project, which got me thinking.... So here we are a few weeks later, a bit of space, shit loads of DW40, and a bit of motivation looking to get the Z going again. If anyone remembers the Foxes MCC based in Tamworth in the late 80's& through 90's then you will remember me & the Z . Don't know where this will end but should be interesting, bit of a technophobe so no pictures yet, need to get me boy to take some & email them to me so I can then post. Cheers for now.

Glad to hear tales form a fellow ST owner.
I had one from 1991 until 1994. Rode all round Europe on it with the missus. Sold it and then got another 1996. That one is still stripped and awaiting being rebuilt.

Hi All, thanks for the welcoming comments, am still searching / figuring out how the site works so don't know if I am answering in the right place. Have absolutely no idea about restoration so trying to look up some basic things - freeing completely rusted bolts etc. if someone could give me some pointers as to where to look / what to look for would be much appreciated. Have got some photos took now, just waiting for my son to email them to me so I can pass them on, Cheers M.

hi M n welcome from a fellow techno-retard (billp terminology) ask away n any questions will be answered by the wise st owners. one piece of advice i would give you: get a kawasaki factory manual for it, they're kinda scarce but worth their weight in gold, even if it's from the states it's a MUST HAVE addition to the shed. good luck. m

Hi 8, totally agree. still have the original Kawasaki service manual with full record of everything I ever did to the Z written in the back, invaluable M

Thanks for your comment, been researching & noticed one of your posts re camshaft cap bolts torque mistake in the service manual, very impressive, when I had the head off many years ago at approx. 80 K as routine service had exactly this problem of stripping the threads at the manual specified torque - have duly amended manual M
