Hi everyone first time here and just bought a 76 model it has come with alloys which I was told were fitted as optional extra when new is this right. The whole bike is pretty good with faded paint green and yellow scheme.

They could have been fitted from new by the dealer okay, a lot of wire wheels ended getting thrown out in those days, but there were quite a few options, in 1976 they probably wouldn’t have been Kawasaki wheels. Morris, Mick Grant, Henry Abe...there were a lot of wheels to chose from. Pic would help...

Green and yellow paint job suggests more than all green with pin striping. Stock colours were green or brown both with just pin stripe for a z900a4
Also cma mags a possability.
Again a pic would help on both counts.

Good to hear that you have a 76 kawasaki but...show us your pride an joy, put a picture on here, don't be shy!
As soon as we've seen your bike, some members can tell you what kind of alloy wheels are mounted.

76 would be very early for alloys, I'd suspect they were added at later date and then in recent years the story was changed to say they were a 'dealer option'. Also, and as said above a 76 model would be an A4 which didn't have any yellow in either factory colours available (Diamond Dark Green or Diamond Brown).

I think it's easy to forget sometimes that these bikes are now pushing 50 years old and would have been through multiple owner changes down the years. Most bikes by now will have had all kinds of changes made to them, some for modification type reasons, others simply to keep the bike on the road for another year with no thought given to originality. A Z1 wasn't always the ultra rare and desirable classic it is today, there was a time when it was just another dated 2nd hand model that you could pick 'relatively' cheaply.

Interesting Bike. Clocks are A4, forks, paintset and seat look earlier Z1. Carbs are A4/1000, or later if the rest of the engine matches the Square cam cover.

Good potential there. What shape is the tail light? Oval or square?
Pingel? Fuel tap. Don't recognise the mags, H cross section six spoke anyone? After market not Kawasaki

Have got the original head and cam cover which needs putting on. It's got an oval rear light.

Are the wheels 6 or 7 spoke ?
If 7 they look like they could be Lesters .

What's the engine and frame numbers. It's starting to look more like 75 Z1B than a 76 A4

A picture of the front of the frame would do, if it's an A4 it'll have the bracing...

I think it's an A4 with lots of B parts.
Either way, a good project to play with.

If thats reg 18P I'll tell you the story of how an A4 became a Z1A look alike
