Just to say hello as new on here . Just got a very original Z1000a1 . First bike for a few years . Getting to know her , usual carb problems (running rich) . Be great to find some Z1 owners near me .

Welcome.
Likely cause of the rich running is worn Choke plungers, float heights and perished 'O' rings on the needle jet tubes if the jetting etc is correct.
