Hi from SW Scotland

#1 PostAuthor: Jacko61 » Sat May 27, 2023 6:46 pm

New to the forum and just bought a 1977 Z1000. Have had a lot of air cooled Zs in the past but mostly 400Js, Z550s and Gpz750s- this is my first big Z.
Engine was running a bit rough when I got it but stripped and rebuilt the carbs today and it’s now running like a dream. Great bike!

Hi Jacko61

welcome to the club!
Nice z1000 you have there, thanks for sharing the picture.
It's an american import I guess? Anyway, enjoy the bike!

Think I’ll live with it as is for now, maybe just give give it a general polish and tidy up. Don’t fancy the time and expense of restoring it back to standard.

Wouldn't take that much 'time' wise, ie new paint, pipes and a correct back wheel plus a few other bits and your there. Sadly though original pipes are scary expensive.

Yeah, aren’t they just £££ but they do look the absolute biz. I don’t mind a 4into1 system although there doesn’t seem to be much choice these days other than the Delkovic.

I like a Marving - nice chrome lines and the collector box is a flat 4 not 2 above 2 so it maintains your ground clearance for going up kerbs etc. Has to come off every year for the oil and filter change though
