It only too me 41 years to get another Z1B

#1 PostAuthor: andygriffiths » Fri Jun 02, 2023 9:12 am

Hi from Cambridgeshire,

I've just managed to get another Z1B after having one when I was 19.

It has been stored for 8 years and probably belonged to someone on here as it has a Z1 Owners club keyring.

I need to rebuild the carbs as it was stored with petrol in, so it would be great if anyone coule point me towards any good youtube videos or threads, I need to take the whole bank apart :(

I had to fit a new camchain to that first one, stripped the whole engine down on my mum's garage floor using a Haynes joke book and a Halfords tool kit and amazingly it ran afterwards, I'm hoping not to do that this time.

Well wear on the new/old bike :)
Im rebuilding 2 sets of Z1.B carbs in the next 2 weeks, see if you can get hold of at least a 5L ultrasonic of if not there is this youtube of Allen Millyard cleaning a 6 rack but its as close as you get.

Plus Allen Millyard talks like he is telling a story to a bunch of 5 year olds, love it.

Lovely looking bike, get the carbs sorted and enjoy it while the sun is out. If its stood for 8 years it would be worth giving the brakes a good seeing to !

If the brass parts on the carbs are in good condition refit them as although the Keyster's are probably the best replacements viz. quality the originals are always best. Also, if not already done get the choke plunger seals replaced or you will be running on choke all the time. PM Rob Meggitt (zed1015) on this forum for top of the line service. I've attached a handy pdf covering carbs which I used when rebuilding my Z1-B, but which unfortunately I cannot cite attribution as I cannot find the author mentioned. If you need any help let me know as I have lots of pics of my rebuild.

Good luck.
