Hello all, first time on the forum for me but not the bike.
I originally owned a Z1B in the early 80's as a spotty teenager, so 40 years later I thought I would have another. This time a Z1 after a bit of searching.
The bike is not entirely original but that is not a real issue for me, and it has had a couple of other users during its brief time since being "fully restored".
All I need not is a bit of sun and for the damn thing to run a little sweeter that is does presently.
Cheers,
Colin.

Welcome, looks very nice. You OK with the spanners, if not there's plenty advice available on the forum

Thanks Warren, I can wield a spanner when necessary. My issues with the bike at the moment re that it runs a bit rough, especially cold, it seems to miss on one cylinder (left one, I can't recall if that is 1 or 4). I have tried all the stuff I can think of, checked carbs, checked timing (statically) swapped ht leads on 1 and 4, but still the problem persists.
I also have an issue with the tacho being unstable over about 4000 rpm. I understand that there is some damping fluid involved but I can't find much detail about if it it something I can tackle or if it need a specialist.
My plan is to find a local bike specialist who can check it over for me. It has only done 1000 miles since the rebuild, I have no details about who performed the rebuild unfortunately.
The previous owner, who was a club member, does not appear to have posted for quite some time, I suspect he let his membership lapse when he sold it on.

It's not a khi speedo but they are all similar internally.
To refill the damper pots means dismantling the outer shells and injecting some light machine oil back into the cylinder trough the rubber cap.
I wouldn't bother taking it to a shop unless they have a proven record of working on 70's bikes. Most shops these days have no clue. If they can plug a laptop in and get told by it which whole component to swop out for new I ty ll likely come back worse than it when in.!

Hi Colin
welcome to the club!
Nice bike you have there, congratulations!
I think it's normal that they run a bit rough when the engine is cold. Don't expect much of it for the first 5 miles but when the engine is warm, it should perform great. If not it'll need to be taken care of by a mechanic who knows these bikes.
As Warren wrote before me: if the mechanic doesn't know the old seventies bikes it might become worse.
Greetings from Belgium.
Philippe

Welcome onboard!
It’s a nice looking bike you have there, Warren and Philippe are right, you need someone who has working knowledge of these classic bikes.
The problem you have maybe something simple and I’m sure you can get the help you need on this forum.
Ride safe!

Thanks Warren, is the dismantling of the casing straightforward please?
Cheers,
Colin.

Dismantling is just a matter of prying under the chrome ring so that the two shell halves can be separated.
Reassembly is just the opposite but far from easy to do neatly as you need to re fold the underside of the ring which is difficult to do neatly. New rings are available or you could send it to Al Marshall (I think) who does a refurb service and is a member of this club.
