Carbs were bought quite a few years ago from guy who had them just sat in damp garage for a while. Turns out No.3 had tip of air screw jammed in body which had snapped off and was a bugger to get it out without damaging body.

Are you sure you have the correct carbs for a z900? They have very chunky side mounted airscrews.
The later Z1000A1/2 had 28mm carbs with bottom mounted airscrews which often snap.
The ID stamped on the Z900 carbs is Z1200 and the Z1000A1/2 are 1025A.

They are not correct carbs for Z900 as they have air screw underneath carbs not on the side and thought they were from a z1000 though am sure they are 26mm not 28. Will have a look tomorrow see if i can find any ID on them and where its stamped.

yip, they're 26mm z1000 (as stated) a1/2 carbs not 28mm, the lack of side mounted air screws along with the underslung adjustment screws identifies them as such. Happy to be corrected. I don't "specialise" on the subject

INteresting mount for swinging arm wonder where it mounts on other side, would be hell of a wide arm and may have been for fitting rvery wide wheel and tyre for drag racing.

Thats what i thought initially but found this which shows how the outriggers might look for the concentric swingarm pivot if using it as a road / race bike with a normal size tyre. That said; as a road or race bike, given the questionable nature of the mounting of the headstock to the barrels studs, i wouldnt like to have to brake too hard
