Hello to all - at last!!

#1 PostAuthor: zed9 » Sat Feb 10, 2024 5:40 pm

Joined quite a few months ago now so thought it was time to say hello.

Its a great site for picking up many tips and info on Z's as i purchased a Z900 A4 import last year that was in quie a state. Wrong carbs (34mm!!) missing air box, wrong forks (air) cracks in tyres like grand canyon, no seat, rusty areas on frame covered in dirt and oil, corrosion etc, wiring all apart so you get the idea.

After good clean up, set of of carbs new tyres etc its running tho need to tweek carbs after total strip down and clean/line tank due to rust and paint it all in z1b colours.

Had brand new z900 a4 in 1976. Year later fitted Dunstall tank/seat unit and exhausts plus twin hearlight fairing and raced it at Sant Pod.
In 1978 purchased Tony Foal monoshock frame fitted Heny Abe wheels ceriani forks lockhead brakes etc and enlarged it to 1,000.
Then in 1979 took engine to 1170 flowed head big valves lumpy cams chromed engine casings and loads of other bits, rc exhaust and painted frame in gold metal flake.
Still have most of it in bits though head barrels carbs and exhaust where nicked many many years ago but hope to have it running again.

Welcome aboard zed9, youre five miles up the road from me. That TF frame is something else, he didnt hold back did he? Put me in mind of this which i tripped over recently. Though i am not sure i would like to see what happens with this in reality!!!

Thanks Ultim8pc carbs can be a nightmare somtimes though have set them up a few times.
Carbs were bought quite a few years ago from guy who had them just sat in damp garage for a while. Turns out No.3 had tip of air screw jammed in body which had snapped off and was a bugger to get it out without damaging body.

Hey Al your not far away at all.

INteresting mount for swinging arm wonder where it mounts on other side, would be hell of a wide arm and may have been for fitting rvery wide wheel and tyre for drag racing.

The Tony Foal frame main tube was made into a fuel tank so used to ride it around as per photos though did have real fuel tank when going distances and through france germany switzerland italy monte carlo and into spain with girl friend.

Are you sure you have the correct carbs for a z900? They have very chunky side mounted airscrews.
The later Z1000A1/2 had 26mm carbs with bottom mounted airscrews which often snap.
The ID stamped on the Z900 carbs is Z1200 and the Z1000A1/2 are 1025A.
