Starter Clutch

I have just tried to start a Z1000 motor I bought a few years ago and of course the starter motor spun wildly :cry: I have the tool to remove the rotor and was wondering if it is a complicated job to fit a repair kit to the starter clutch, I seem to remember reading somewhere that is is best left to the experts. Can anyone tell me if this is so.

Hi Mart

If you are good with the spanners easy peasy, the only fiddly bit is the springs and throw out weights.

Just get the rotor off, and replace whatever is needed, if you take out the allen bolts, make sure you loctite them back in, also make sure the key is in the crank when refitting the rotor

Thanks, yeah no problem with the spanners. It was just that I had heard it was difficult to repair the starter clutch assembly. I will have a pop at it.

You can get 'repair kits' for the starters, which has new rollers & springs...

Z1Enterprises or ZPower should do them :wink:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Thanks for that, I will pull it apart and see what the problem is, I have heard that the rotors can come loose and cause this :?:

When the rotor comes loose.... its usually quite evident - lots of rattling & rumbling :shock: Depending how long & how loose :!:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Yeah I would have thought so, but this is an engine I bought a couple of years ago and have not tried until now. I am just testing it while I am rebuilding my 900 motor. If it is good I will tidy it up and keep it for my other project.
