engine probs

#1 PostAuthor: sme » Sat Nov 19, 2011 5:26 pm

gpz1100 b
when turning the engine over, the starter is struggling,
slowing down to a stop.
-can this be fixed?

i also taken the head off,
but when putting it back on trying to make sure it stays at TDC on the crank end it moves slightly.

and when checking the cam shafts that the in and exh are pointing opposite directions and 44 teeth apart.
the arrows should be parallel to the rocker block.

is this right, or any tips to help me get it back running again.

thanks

Starter motor struggling - could be either:

Dirty or loose connections from battery/solenoid/earth :?:
Tired starter motor - brushes worn :?:
Duff battery :?:

If you haven't removed the spark plugs - this'll help to stop the crank turning - its usually due to compression build-up at TDC

Make sure pistons (1 & 4) are at TDC. Ensure the EX cam is pointing out & mark is level withtop of head, then count teeth - don't panic if IN cam is not quit level with head
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
