Chain Clean and Lube
Will be using 79 Z1000 for first time following many years in storage and having had mechanical/electrical work done last year - Any advice on techniques for cleaning and lubing chain would be appreciate - Any particular brand of lube recommended ? - Thanks.
Re: Chain Clean and Lube
S'pose it depends on if the chain is still serviceable after so long unused. I use Putoline chain degreaser after the winter lay up followed by a chain wax from the same, Although I've used several makes over the years and none of them do what they say on the tin when it comes to 'non-Fling'.
As an aside, The Putoline Chain degreaser is also a fantastic engine cleaner, MUCH better that the supposed dedicated cleaners from the likes of Gunk etc.

If its an o ring type chain, depends on whether as Gary says is still servicable as the sprockets, have seen o ring types where o rings have broken up,pull chain at rear of sprocket to see if it lifts up and look at front and rear sprockets for any wear, and if adjutsters at max of adujustment,at the cost of a new set replace if in doubt, for cleaning i use one of those fancy spiral brushes which wrap round the chain with a decent degreaser, tend to use waxy lubes these days
