carb stripping/re-building

Hi all, can anyone recommend any good tutorials /advice / tips on stripping and re-building some z1r carbs?
I've 'tinkered' in the past swapping jets but not in any 'scientific /precise' manner (always been k&n and say an harris so up the jet size!)
Never dug any deeper.

Big clean area to work, I make a table top by screwing some 2x2 to a board and clamping it in the vice, gives me a nice working height.

Slow and methodical - lay everything out on your big clean board as you go, they take up loads of room when stripped.

Use the biggest screwdriver you can on jets, one that fits snugly in the slot, less chance of damage.

DO NOT drift the float pins out.

Have tons of brake cleaner/carb cleaner to hand. And clean rag.

Take EVERYTHING you can see out or off, there WILL be crap where you least expect it.

The art of DIY is knowing when not to - if you are stuck just ask.

Take lots of photos - it will help putting it back together or for asking questions.

They aren't as complicated as you think.

Thats good advice,best £100 i spent was on an ultrasonic cleaner,big enough to take a couple of carb bodies,also try and keep parts to body which they came out of,some of the cheap carb kits are pretty poor,tour max are not bad,of course gen are best,i make up a board when rebuilt with a couple of old carb to head rubbers,mount carbs in them and mount level in a vice,easier to set float heights etc with manometer then..

I bought an ultrasonic cleaner big enough for a bank of four carbs, but I think it was a false economy because, contrary to popular belief it's still best to strip them and it costs a bloody fortune in cleaning fluid.

all good advivce. i would also closely inspect the top nozzle of emulsion tubes for any ware as this can cause droplets to form rather than an atomised spray at mid throttle, and cause the bike to bog down. as for the float pins i have an old jet needle i try to push them out with if this does not work i will tap the end of the old needle with a screwdriver handle gentley.

Following on from this post I've decided to buy an ultrasonic cleaner. I'll put up a seperate post for any recommendations on size and model type.
