Hello from down South ,
it has taken a bit of time but finally , after 34 years , I have returned to Z ownership.
I have just picked up this 1978 'KZ1000 A2' and have to say that it's a credit to the last two owners , imported in 96 , fantastic condition.
There are one or two little jobs to do , mainly running issues , probably down to it not being used very often over the last few years.
Sometimes the memory of something turns out to be better than reality but in this case it definitely isn't , it took me straight back to 1981 and my 'Z1B'
There is one question I'd like to ask if I may , is there an 'older bike' friendly workshop or mechanic based in the Sussex area any of you could recommend. There are one or two jobs need doing and I just don't have the tools needed.

Welcome and Verralls is down your way at Handscross. You can't get more vintage bike shop than that, in fact yours may be a little too new for them!

I'll second what Al says. Mark Hutton did a great job on my KZ1000A2 but his wait time is quite long as he is in demand.
Your story sounds very familiar to mine it. I had a 33 year hiatus but recently returned to two wheels after last owning a 1975, Z1B in '83' to my current KZ1000A2, which was imported in '95'. Mine's green though!

Welcome. Nice looking Z - is that a US colour scheme ? Looks a lot like one on a mates Canadian KH400.

Welcome ,nice bike hope you get sorted soon
Re: New member from Sussex
Thanks for the welcome everyone and for the pointers to the various garages/mechanics.
I decided to have a go at sorting the starting and running myself.
I just did the basics , a new set of plugs , points adjusted , new fuel lines , new air filter , a good dose of carb cleaner and she's running like a champ again.
Starting is on the button and comes off choke much quicker now , result !
Mark , yes it is a US colour , 'Luminous Red' according to the data. It was imported from the states in 1996 , someone has fitted or modified the KZ side panel badges to show z1000 instead.
There are a few things I'm not happy with and will need sorting. They are : the seat , badly fitted seat cover , the front brake , getting used to it but still scary and the blanked off US market light switch , no provision the turn them off.
Another pic after a small amount of polishing.

Also a Euro/UK colour along with the Luminous Green. US market did get a Black option though which wasn't available over 'ere.

Side panel badges will doubtless be the original KZ1000 items with the 'K' hacked off.
Nice bike.
