Laying up for Winter

#1 PostAuthor: Fred the Zed » Wed Sep 27, 2017 7:42 pm

What's the consensus to keep the tank rust free and carbs ungummed?

1. Empty the tank and carbs

2. Fill the tank and empty the carbs

3. Fill the tank and leave the carbs

4. Do something else?

just use a good quality fuel stabilizer you do not need to drain the carbs

To start with use a fuel stabiliser, oregon or Briggs and Stratton does nicely, run the bike up at least once a fortnight to keep it lubed, get out on it on bright dry days, i have always done this, mind you I'm not precious about my bikes.

I'm sure that I read somewhere that the bike should be kicked over every couple of weeks to ensure lubrication but not to actually let the bike start as this would encourage condensation ?
Agree a nice run on those sunny winter days :D

Always run mine up to temperature, never a problem, stainless exhausts, there's different ways to over winter i just like to get out from time to time, so no mothballing for me.

Nice one Ade, that made me chuckle. Having been in a situation where I've had to run bikes through the winter for the past 25 years, I can assure you that now I don't need to, I won't be doing it again. :blah

Looks like a fuel stabiliser and regular runs is the way forward.

I've ordered the Frost Ethomix.

Cheers guys!
