So that's what a thousand pound looks like, nice mate nice
Re: Gpz Drag bike Project for 2018
Love this thing its got lots of clever functional ideas on it.
clear float bowls
MSD ignition driving zetec car 1.5ohm coils
shifter switch and homemade lanyard switch
low profile breather
plastic air tank
No paint on the frame Paint adds weight.

I'm not jealous at all, honest

Did I say I'm not jealous
Re: Gpz Drag bike Project for 2018
The plan at the moment is to do the following
Lose the MSD and replace with an IGNITECH Sparker3
http://www.ignitech.cz/en/vyrobky/rac/rac.htm
It has facility for a Shift light , nitrous connection, built in rev limiter, all adjustable through the laptop.
One of the trackday guys uses one and he ran 7 twenty minute sessions on a standard GPZ Motabatt total loss system and at the end of the day it still registered 12.35v. Running 1.5ohm coils on an 8 plug head.
I will go the 3ohm Dyna coil route and adjust the spark duration to suite (also adjustable on the ignitech)
I also have agreed the purchase of a N20 kit taken straight of a z1100 so that should be a simple fit.
But AL has advised " proceed with caution" as he thinks I might be jumping in at the deep end.
Which is probably about right!
What I will be looking for though is a standard set of Unitrac pick ups and ignition casing if anyone has one surplus to requirements.

Phil, I've got a set of Unitrak casings and pickups you can have, their only taking up space in the garage
An expanding collection of parts pretending to be a Z1100R and a Yamaha FZ750

Re: Gpz Drag bike Project for 2018
Done some work on the drag bike.
Stipped off the MSD Ignition and coils as I am going to sell that.
Stripped off the top end.
IT has .429 cams and adjustable APE sprockets.
APE heavy duty studs and bolts.
72.5MM What looks like standard ART114 72.5mm pistons that have been polished and balanced and they have been gas flowed, they have some tiny holes in the crown edges that apparently let gas through and causes the rings to push out and create better compression. This is a drag racing trick apparently but should help with the N20 when its fitted.
The other interesting thing is the engine breather pipe routes around to the collector box of the 4-1. I originally thought in case it blows smoke out but it may also to be to reduce crankcase pressure by having a venturi affect created be the exhaust gases.
Is this something anyone has come across before?

Is it just the photo, or are those plugs protruding into the head?
Interesting stuff..... keep it coming!

And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Yes! a common mod if you are serious about creating negative crankcase pressure and reducing pumping loss.
The exhaust gasses passing the end of the breather pipes will draw out the crankcase pressure just like air passing through a carburettor venturi drawing up fuel through the needle jet.
