Ignition Leads

#1 PostAuthor: rickm » Fri Nov 10, 2017 2:26 pm

Hi,

My 1000J could do with some new ignition leads.
At the moment, it has new standard Kawasaki coils in good condition, with some yellow silicon leads which have seen better days.
I’ve been told that the Dyna Performance leads will not work with standard coils?
Can anyone recommend a good-looking aftermarket replacement set of leads, without having to buy new coils as well?

Thanks,
Rick

Thanks for that, but I've been told (by a certain specialist company who sell the coils and lead sets) that the Dyna leads will not work with standard coils.
Is this just bull ?

Can anyone confirm whether the standard coils need 7mm or 8mm leads?
The ones fitted at the moment that I'm looking to replace are 7mm.

Dyna leads don't fit in standard coils, I can probably find a short length of Dyna lead and send it to you if you want to try it.

From an electrical point of view that is 1st class bullshit.
But they may mean that the leads diameter is too fat to fit the stock coil.

That is exactly what the problem is

BTW Dyna leads look very similar to the ones I put on Ford Puma a few years ago that came from Motorspares and cost about £20 for the set.

So I just need 7mm replacement leads then?

Yes, the cheap stuff isn't really flexible enough though, it'll work but won't turn tight enough to look nice.

Guyzz

May be wrong but don't the standard coils have built in leads hence can't be removed for replacement ????

The ones on the 1000J have a screw cap, and the lead just pushes onto a spike and is held on by the cap.

Supposed to be held on by the cap would be more accurate, though new coils are probably better than the 35 year old ones I had.

you just need summat like this
https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/ ... tegory/115

there are other types available, just leave a tail on the moulded leads long enough to fit one of them to each

this statement :_ " Dyna leads will not work with standard coils."

comes under the heading of not actually lying just not telling all the truth
