GPZ1100 Frame

#1 PostAuthor: FOZ1A » Sat Nov 11, 2017 5:51 pm

Is it possible to fit a Z900/1000 engine into a gpz1100 frame?

I pretty sure you can but someone will be along to say for definite.

Why do you want to do it?

It's not easy. I had the same idea with a Unitrak frame but when I positioned the Z900 crankcases in the frame it was obvious it was going to be a challenge. So I gave up but someone on here has done it. The front mount is way off and needs repositioning as I recall.

I am thinking of going the other way has anybody done the reverse, GPZ into z1000/900 frame it must be possible as non kickstart engines should be shorter.
If anyone has pics or tips it would be useful.

should be easy to put a GPz in.

I had a Harris made for a Z900...blew that up and put a GPz in. Can't remember there being any issues.

Done rather a long time ago.

From memory the front and rear top mounts are a straight fit.

We welded another tube across the front with ears on to fit the lower mount.

And I "think" we welded ears on to the swing arm cross tube for the rear lower mount

Cheers

There isn't a lower rear engine mount on a GPZ1100 engine (or any J engine), the front lower is an additional one to the older engines, front mountings are rubber, rear is solid

I was looking to use a GPZ1100 frame, as there is a complete lack of Z900/1000 frames out there for sensible money - anyone got one to sell? I read the project threads and its not a straight forward swop. I've been offered a frame and crankcases, so could I transplant a Z900 engine internals into GPZ1100 crankcase?

There was a z1r frame for sale on here yesterday. You would be better buying that. I used to run a z1r tank on an a1 so bodywork should not be a problem.

I think an engine internals transfer would be difficult.
You can fit gpz heads to earlier engines but gearbox clutch cranks etc i suspect would not work.

Plus. old zed tanks won't fit a GPz frame..the tubes are spaced much wider.

Thats my ongoing project... Not far off now just need to find some time and enthusiasm.

Years ago I put a GPZ1100 crank, cylinders and head in to a Z900 engine for my Harris but you have to weld the supports for the rear cam chain guide into the top crankcase so the reverse is possible.
