Hi all - there was a cracking post on here about painting the letters in on handlebar switchgear - really detailed and foolproof. I don't suppose anyone has something similar for tank and side panel badges do they? I have tried to refurb as much of the original kit as possible and only bought new replacement product where I have had little alternative. My z1000 is not going to be a 'better than factory' nut and bolt restoration and will certainly show the scars of it's 40 years however if I can tidy up the badges (pretty sure that they are originals, tell me if they aren't) I would like to.
Has anyone done this - what do I do ? What do I use? Where they matt or gloss ? That sort of stuff. Grateful for any input.
Just had my side panels back and the paint job looks ace. IMO.

Dont Know about refurb, but your tank badges look original and your side panel badges look like reproduction if thats any help.
Re: Badge Refurb - tips and tricks needed.
If that's the case I'm not going to spend too much time on them - this is what is on the back - ?

As above. fill in the white bits, let it dry then polish off any over paint from the silver edge which will also bring these back as well.
You could also give them few coats of Satin/matt lacquer to finish.

especially on the white lettering, or engine casings (where the edges are raised to keep paint inside) - don't feel obliged to use a brush to get the paint in.
I tend to go for cocktail stick or wooden BBQ skewer with pointed end.
As long as the badge is off the bike and flat the paint will settle flat anyhow - and the wood point gives you excellent fine control.
blob some paint in and smooth it around with the wooden point.
oh and a bit of practice first is an idea.

Im sure your side panel badges are plastic, and the original ones were a cast alloy like the z900.

Recently taken off the side panel badges on my z1000a1, the original ones, and yes they are PLASTIC
