Have a word with Chris Tombleson about getting it welded, I don't see why it shouldn't be, it's only got to do 1/4 mile at a time in a straight line and you can check it after each meeting, road bike I'd go for a replacement set of cases, but for a drag bike welding should be okay, might be possible to make it stronger than original.

Phil, i had the same on my Lawson when i bought it. I did not notice at the time i purchased the thing so had no choice but to build the motor up in a new set of cases. I didn't worry to much at the time as it was never going to be matching numbers as it already had a UT engine transplanted in. I now have UT internals, barrels and head sat on 1000J casings.

If you have the broken bit then i would have thought a competent welder could sort that no issue.

Its several pieces, two side bits the rest seems to have vaporized! Must have gone with a bang.

Andy withe the GSXR 750 slabby is going to have a look at it to see what he can do.

Chris could get it done but his welder normally has a backlog.

My engine is also all UT apart from the cases and sump, which are J, it was like this when I got it, maybe I now know why!

Cheers Keep my eye on them. Its not for a mint bike its for a race bike so If I can safely repair I'll give it a shot.

Can't see a problem on a road bike even, weld it up

So what do I do now ? Weld it up, could this be done as a complete lump ? Strip it and source replacement cases ?

Just a heads up.

I have a set I took to my local wizard/alchemist (welder) that have only got a crack in the same mounting point.

He said he would do it but could not guarantee that the amount of heat needed may or may not damage any seals.

Haven't had it done yet due to time/money etc. but I am willing to get it done in place and deal with the out come.

Gus,
Yes it is a potential that it would do the seals but there is more chance I think of it being ok if its done one weld at a time if you know what I mean Just one strip at a time.

Time will tell. I'll update once we have done something with it.

Sam, Thanks for the link to the cases worth a look. I think

A talented friend of mine repaired the cases with a strong and functional welded in box section. Its not pretty but its a drag bike and it will hold. So thanks go to Andy.

I then started the rebuild,
Fitted my custom made alloy fuel tank.

And rebuilt the chassis,

I have replaced the dodgy yamaha front wheel and brake setup with a 18" slabby wheel as they are light weight for old skool wheels and I am using 300mm ZX6R discs.

Brembo single pot calipers will be fitted once I have scrounged them off a friend. :blush
