On the subject of non vacuum taps, early GSXR750s have non vacuum taps and flow enough fuel for 100bhp.
It musn't be from a US market one though, as they have vacuum taps.

I imagine flow would be a concern. It would need to be a tap from a bigger bike. This one wont work anyway as i need a 44mm heart to heart on the bolt holes.
I went to the breakers but they had nothing and no ideas. Has nobody else had this problem?

Another thought, could you continue to use the vacuum tap, but then have a second on/off tap in between the vacuum tap and the carbs, these taps are available cheaply on Amazon or EBay

what float valves/ needle seats did you use? in my experience the pattern ones are a nightmare to set up & you need to leave them clamped in a vice for a few weeks pissing about adjusting the float levels fit genuine ones & you shouldn't have a problem but you must make sure the fuel tank is absolutely spotless by half filling it with fuel & give it a good shake then empty it into a bowl & let it settle befor you check it for contamination you will need to do this a least 1/2 dozen times even if you have an inline fuel filter fitted you will be surprised what can get through & cause the needle from seating properly

The tank has been vinegar/sodaed numerous times. The last time getting a thorough rinse out with diesel afterwards.I would say this was the 5th time!Thats it.Not doing it again.!Of course there could be something still in there( thats probably whats messing with the diaphram in the tap) but I cant reasonably clean it any more.
The idea of an inline tap was brought up before but I nixed that as theres very little space between the tank and the top of the engine to get your fingers in to operate it.
However! The seat is held on with velcro and lifts out with no fuss,so I have fitted an inline tap in the pipe where it curls over the top of the carbs and heads down to the T-Joint.(the bikes wearing pods) Easily accessable between the frame tubes under the back of the tank when the seat is lifted.
I only need to use it when Its parked up for the night so,that should do the job. Not ideal of course and If someone manages to find a suitable tap,let me know.

Now to sort out the oil leak and the dodgy clutch!!!!!!

P.S. It has been suggested to me that the cause of all this havoc could be down to ethanol in the fuel.

Has anyone ever made an adapter to fit a standard zed tap to later models? Just a thought.

Now I have a clearer picture, I will keep digging.

Sadly, I have just worked out that at 30mpg @ 60mph you need half a teaspoon 2.5cc per second flow rate! Yes, I really do need to get out more

Pingel do sell tank adapter plates, which would allow you to fit a Z1, Z900 or Z1000A1 fuel tap with thread fit. Just s thought.

I had lots of fuel tap issues and found a Pingel to be a fit and forget solution - not original but just works. As someone has already said, Non genuine needle and seats often cause problems. Allens do genuine Mikuni ones at reasonable money.

My Z1000J tap did the same as your CSR one, replaced it with a Pingle, which has given me a load more problems.

I have been looking at a Pingel for my Z1000J, what other problems did you have?
I am just looking at replacing as I have doubts over the efficency of the original tap.
I've put new seals etc in it and it doesn't leak but reading the Pingel bumf it sounds like you get a better fuel rate and added bonus loose the vacuum part.
But how much!!!!

That's not so good, especially at 150 quid!!

Apart from that did you notice any improvement in any areas, starting, pick up to full beans etc ??

If you have fuel pissing out and are operating a vacuum tap you have two problems, the tap itself and the float valves and seats, the seats i have always polished using solvol and never have a problem thereafter, i also use inline filters to filter out any crap, where taps are concerned i have always got rebuild kits or replace completely. you may have to bite the bullet and go for a new tap.
