Apols if I've missed something from an earlier thread, but are those parts standard or something you've fabricated?

Rick youve not missed anything. I was making a silver steel pushrod just before christmas and whilst there i gave it another looking at and fiddled with it all a bit. I spent an hour on the phone with a friend of mine recently (few months back) trying to describe all the bits and how they are orientated to fix his one. Needed to cull my phone gallery and since this has come up before...
They are standard parts but there are two versions. One is a helical spiral, this one seems less flakey so went with it. Looking at the way it had worn previously; i had re-shaped the clevis on the end of the cable, drilled out the rivet and increased the diameter with a new one. I thickened the operating arm on the end where the rivet goes through and changed the angle of the arm relative to the mechanism. Return spring is a little longer, a little stiffer because the distance from the cable restraint to the arm is a wee bit more. Just replaced the clutch lever as that was badly worn and with all the above taken together its very light which is just as well with a six spring clutch, up-rated clutch springs and an extra plain plate!!!

So you effectively refurbed and upgraded the standard mech. Mine currently has a lot of the wear / slack in the various components, so might attempt something similar
The thread on the adjuster nut that goes through the casing is partially stripped too, but I can't seem to find a replacement part on-line as yet. I could probably make something that would do the job if necessary. Any suggestions?

All the gubbins appears to be still available currently!!
Nut is 8mm so any non locking half nut would probably do.
Alternatively depending on whats tired out; if its the thread on the adjuster peg you could put a washer behind the nut to get the nut onto a more useable part of the thread. Or the same washer; inside the case on the threaded adjuster but between its shoulder and the case itself!

I only noticed this very fact earlier this evening I was rooting about trying to find all the carefully stored parts for my 1000R and for a horrible moment I thought I had lost half this mechanism, then I realised the spare casing with the assembled mechanism I was comparing it to was entirely different (the more elaborate one) even though the casings look the same. I think the spare one is off a GPz. The gear lever mounting on the casing is different too, never noticed these differences before...

No they appear to be slightly different the worm drive version is held in by a plate with two bolts the other one just seems to stay together with pressure from the pushrod and so it has no bolt holes and the turret thing seems deeper.

As Chris says the casings are cast the same (very similar?) but machined differently so they are not interchangeable.

Al's link above leads to a compatibility list, when the part is clicked on..my one (z1000a) showed up as suitable for 34 models inc j1+j2. it looks similar physically.. m

No but the PMC easy clutch kit has an adapter for earlier bike with worm gear

In the cmsl diagram I noticed that there is a comp clutch release, does this give any additional leverage/ pull over the original. And does it need any additional items to work other than the standard ones. As it looks as though it may be a cheaper alternative to the PMC kit.
