#1 PostAuthor: Safo » Sat May 18, 2019 4:03 pm

Hi, just bought a Z1b, de rusted the tank, sonic cleaned the carbs fitted new battery and its a runner no nasty noises so I am happy, got to change the oil next, l am assuming as its a wet clutch it won't have full synthetic in at the moment? The last time I owned a Z I was probably using castrol Gtx straight mineral oil, comment's please and thanks in advance

Hi Safo
welcome to the club!
Good that you have a runner with no nasty noises.
Use semi-synthetic oil 10W40, not for the clutch but for the oil seals.
If you're able to remove the oil pan, do it, clean it ou,t use a new gasket, o-rings and oil filter. If there are bits and pieces of plastic in the oil pan they could point out to worn timing chain parts, if not you're lucky!
Just put some pictures of your bike on here, we all like that.
Greetings from Belgium

Thankyou for your advice, that's something I would not have thought of doing, but as it sounds OK at the moment and as I am eager to have a ride I will change oil and filter and maybe drop the sump and inspect after a few hundred miles if not before, by the way found my old oem workshop manual, in the loft for 40 +yrs the loft has not been kind to it also found valve bucket holding tool, never thought I would need them again!
Thanks
