MK2 and J exhaust

#1 PostAuthor: Sgt.Pinback » Sat Jan 11, 2020 9:54 pm

Apart from additional mounting brackets (under the engine) on Z1000J exhaust: are there major differences between MK2 and J exhaust? Will J exhaust fit MK2? Is the look similar?
Cheers, Uli

Hi Uli
only the marking is different (KZT00A, KZT00J). For the rest they look just the same.

Hi Philippe,

Just noticed the down pipes are different on the upper end. Will that J pipes fit MK2 head anyway?

Yes. My J has a pre-1980 Kerker pipe fitted and the header diameter is the same between models.
If you're using a stock exhaust the header clamps might look different but are interchangeable, with the exception that some early years used M6 if I'm not mistaken.

I believe ultim8pc bought a 'J' just to put the exhaust on a MKII. If he doesn't post here, it may be worth a PM?

That is the plan. Mounting that J exhaust on my H.

I wonder, how these J downpipes are fixed. Same collars (half-moons) as MK2/H ?

I never fitted the J exhausts to the MK2 (as I sold the J with the exhaust as I was made an offer I couldn't refuse), so don't know for sure.
The J collars are different to the Mk2. The MK2 being the usual chromed and finned steel items and the J being a smooth aluminium item.

Nigel, that finned (MK2) or smooth (J) part is called Holder. That will fit.

The part I´m asking are the collars # 92027A (J) as in link above.

Ulrich

Ah yes, sorry, should have paid more attention.
Makes sense you'll need the shorter J inner collars due to the longer flange on the end of the J headers.
Let me know who you get on.

Will have that J exhaust re-chromed and then fitted to the MK or to the H.

The J exhaust has those additional brackets. Not sure if I cut them off before chrome if. Will they disturb on NK2/H?

Any chance you can see if they fit before you chrome them?
I believe that you need to use the MK2/H brackets to make the J exhaust fit.

As yes, those brackets! Yes, I guess those would need to be removed....
Eagerly awaiting your news on fitment!
