Starting problem.(Z1 73)
Went to start this morning ,not enough power in the battery to use electric start so kicked it over & it did start but a bit spluttery, then ran fine when warm .Put charger on cleaned plugs check wires around fuse ,2 white wies slighty loose so nipped them up,now will not start ,very weak spark , has combined regulator /rectifier fitted (I am i thinking this is the problem , have no metre to check but could get one ),Thanks in advance for any help.
Re: Starting problem.(Z1 73)
I have just sorted out my Z1B, i had similar symptoms, i have now fitted a new reg/ rectifier from. Zpower, i also got a second hand Stator which is definitely better than the poorly refurbished item i took off, last year i had a big meltdown on the wiring loom which resulted in new main loom switches and ignition. I also fitted dyna coils and electronic igntion. In a way the meltdown has been a blessing in disguise as she now fires up easily, all the hesitation on acceleration now gone. I think the stator was the thing that has made the biggest difference, i paid £40 on Ebay for it and i suspect it has never done what it should have since i owned the bike, the original loom was also hacked about which contributed to the problem. If you can borrow a multimeter its a big help.i hope this is of help.
