GPZ1100B2 camshafts

#1 PostAuthor: Philippe » Thu Nov 19, 2020 4:51 pm

Hi men
as you know I restored a GPZ1100 B2 a few months ago. It has a Uni-Trac (ZX1100) engine.
A few weeks ago I was able to buy a B2 engine but the camshafts are missing.
I have two spare ZX camshafts.
I wonder if I could use the ZX1100 camshafts in the B2 head. The lobes of the ZX are approx. 0,65 mm higher and they have a ratio of 300 °. The cams of a B2 have a 288° ratio.
The B2 valves have shims above the buckets and the ZX valves have shims under the bucket.
If I could use the ZX camshafts in the B2 head I plan to swap the ZX engine in my B2 for the correct one.
Is there anyone who can give correct advice?
Thanks anyway

You will have to clearance the bucket bores for the Unitrack cams in the B head but other than that there will be no issues with valve/piston clearance or using shim on top.

Hi zed1015

thanks for your answer ! :D
I allready mounted the ZX camshafts in the B2 head with their bearings and the cam lobes could pass across the bucket bores.
I'll check it again and I'll certainly keep your advice in my thoughts!
Many thanks, much appreciated!

I have unitrac cams in one of my 1000a1's and they fitted ok with no issues, only problem was getting the APE cam sprockets to convert the later 2 bolt cams to the 3 bolt and different type of cam chain, APE only make them now and again so no stock anywhere

Hi flateddie

thanks for the extra information! If they work in a Z head they will work in a Gpz head too.
Much appreciated
