Found this
I had one when I was 23, sold it for a Blackbird, wanted more speed. Hankered after another for a few years.
First bike I've bought for 20 years that starts, stops and brakes with forks that don't spew their liquid. I saw the money they're going for in the UK..........
I'm in effect the the 3rd owner because the lady that I got it from was given it from her Dad but it was too heavy.
Bad bits--Carb 3 leaks outwards, carb 2 leaks inwards and filled the sump with an extra 2 litres of petrol. It's been on it's side but stationary, not sliding, no marks around the steering stops. One horn is knackered, It hasn't got the grab, bungy handles due to it having a back rack. And someone has put some go faster stripes down the middle of the tank and rear fin.
Good ponts--It looks like it just needs a bit of TLC, Original Exhaust, no rattles, took the carbs apart and the are mint inside, and for a few float bowl gaskets will run and ride. 61000 km so 40000 miles.

Good bikes I reckon they’re very underrated

Thanks Philippe. Yes they are Chris. When I had my first and a mate had a true Zed, we swapped, had a play and I thought the Zeph was a Zed with 90's tech. Did a track day on it, honeymoon and a trundle to Moto Faro in '98 in 2 days. just the 750 miles a day. Just lacked that bit of power...but I've out grown that now....I think.

Re: Zeph11
The fuel tap didn't turn off, took it apart, it was clean put it back together, now it works properly. The carbs were very clean inside
Though no.3 was manky on the outside, all had a good clean, just waiting for some joints.
There is a pilot jet o-ring, looks like it'll need a pick of some description to get those out?
Any clues anyone?
Bad news, the original exhausts are near their end.
They've been 'kerbed' but more importantly I tried to dismantle them in situ, no chance. Choice remove front end to slide them out or maybe taking the centre stand off may allow them to come out sideways, luckily the 2nd option worked. Lots of releasing fluid and wire brushing and teasing later and the won't budge. I'll wreck them if I continue so going to autosol the silencers, treat the balance pipe area then paint black and depending on the downpipes they may become black as well.
I've looked on the Delkovic site and they only do cans so going to try and save these for a bit longer.

Re: Zeph11
Carbs are back on. New throttle cables fitted, silly not to being as they were in the 'freebie bag' that came with it.
Then it was time to clean up the ally.
The wheels were looking a bit sorry for themselves.
As were the forks
After a good degreasing the laquer was sanded away with 150 wet and dry in soapy water followed by some 400 grit, then the mop.
Front end refitted, next job is to whip the swinging arm out to give it a good coat of looking at....and a clean.

Re: Zeph11
Swing Arm came off.
Lots of black marks, lots of scuffs from an un tensioned chain and some acid burns. Thinking the black marks must be tar or something I tried some thinners. No change. Can't have it like that so it got some 150 grit abuse.
It turns out that the black marks are the primer! Mr Kawasaki, in his wisdom, decided to primer an ally swing arm black then paint it silver so that every stone chip shows up??
Anyhow it's now back to this.
It doesn't lend itself to be polished like a deep brace Metmachex but this year it will be.
Then spent the next few hours degreasing the sprocket cover, chain guard (see above pic) and chain. The PO didn't forget to oil the chain, just didn't clean it....a triangular paint scraper came in handy.
The engine cover was petrol stained and the laquer was lifting so got the same treatment.
Just waiting on a sump and clutch gasket and she can get some oil and hopefully be ready for the loud button.

Re: Zeph11
I had the 750 but didn't the 11 have problems with jumping out of 2nd Gear?..

Re: Zeph11
Nigel, I hope I like this one as much as I remember my first.
Philippe, The majority was done with wet and dry but the brush is very good for cleaning around the welds.
Garry, My mate had a 750 when I had my 550 and then the 11. Looks wise the 750 is a baby sister to the 11 but performance wise it seemed quite similar to the 550. I've read about the 2nd gear issue but never had an issue with it on my first one and another mate also had an 11 with no issues. I hope I'm not tempting fate.....Maybe it's along the same lines as according to forums all 1.6 16v HDI engines eat turbos but no one post to say theirs is fine.
Bit more done at the weekend.
Matt blacked the downpipes with log burner paint. Much better than how they were.
Also got the mops out on the swinging arm so that can now go back in after a Belgum Alu and get it back on it's feet.

Back on it's feet
I think the matt black exhaust downpipes don't look too bad. Wished I'd fitted the chrome trims before the exhausts were fitted (which is a pain as they're not take apartable) the sidestand switch stops the left one from being retro fitted, so can stay of at the moment.
Fitted some new genuine carb to air box rubbers to suit the carb to head rubbers. I'd forgot how much swearing is involved!
Just waiting on an oil filter to arrive now.
It's needs the grubby finger marks cleaning from the reassemble and the front engine mounts need taking off and respraying but that can hang on. It's not pristine but a damn sight better than when I picked it up. The polishing isn't great 'cause I have 'lost' my unstitched mop and should have spent more time getting the scratches out...but

Re: Zeph11
Thanks Philippe.
Oil filter in, loud button pressed.
Balanced the carbs to within 1.5cm HG.....but I've got a spit on No. 1 carb and it feels chuggy under 3K rpm. (Bike help topic added). On a trundle down the lane everything seems good a part from the back brake which is next to non existant and the bottom end chug. I'd forgotten how easy these are to ride slowly.
Need to sort the spit and the rear brake next.
I fear I'll be fighting the carbs off again.........
