Where are you connecting the test bulb?
Sounds like your connecting to the live not the trigger.

Not sure on your bike but triggers are either normally green and black. Lives are normally yellow with red stripe.
You need to be connecting to either green or black depending which coil your timing up to.

Trigger wire (whatever colour :D ) shouldn't be constantly live. Do same test on the other trigger wire (green?) if it does what is expected then you may have a suspect pick up on 1&4.

Hi long time since update on this turns out that the 1 and 4 pick up was goosed and if I looked at it close enough I could just see a small bubble in the black casing

I’ve looked online about the Dyna s system and it seems to be a common failure problem ,but Dyna are not interested if it’s out of warranty mine was out of warranty but was literally new as been on the shelf for a couple of years whilst I was slowly rebuilding the bike

I have bought all my Dyna stuff over the years direct from DYNA UK and when i have phoned with a failure they acknowledge my continued custom with a discount of some sort or other.
Have you asked them if they will sell a single pickup / repair the unit?
Currently they have a 15% off sale which makes the cheapest place in the UK to buy those products, cheaper still. Dyna 'S' from them new presently is £136 at checkout,.. its around £170 everywhere else.
There were a number (5 to 10 ish) failures from a batch of Dyna 'S' units a few years back. Only in the UK they told me, not anywhere else. These were replaced FOC as far as i know.
I would speak to them and see what can be done. They may come across as difficult for a full refund or replacement but i have found them very open to negotiation and very helpful by phone and by e-mail communications.
