Thanks for all the replies and suggestions, that and the fact it was no chesper from abroad once you added all the vat, inport duty etc etc, then if anything goes wrong youve all the hassle of sending it back.
If you buy used theres a risk of existing danage, rust, leaks and having to buy extra parts to get it to fit, new tap or cap.
In the end bought brand new one from Zpower not cheap but no problem with dents, filler rust, leaks and minimal prep for painter, but anove all peace of mind, buying from a decent UK supplier so my bank account may be empty but my conscience is clear. As a bonus their shopping it straight to painter too! Great
Again thanks Guys really app the advice

Re: Z900 A4 fuel tank (or 1 that will fit, same shape etc)
Thanks for all the replies, decided to bite the bullet and bought a brand new one from Zpower.
Why? Well for a start its brand new so no rust, leaks or dents to worry about, the tap fittings correct and as luck would have it my tank had the Z1 cap so will fit, service was great as usual and they pisted it directly to my painter which saved me a journey.
On the downside it was yet another expense i hadn't anticipated, seems ive done a lot of that of late!

I have fitted a repro tank to a Z900 and the fit and overall shape is a little different to OEM. Seems like big variances in the manufacturing tolerances.

Thanks for info, Yes i checked this with Zpower, they told me they used to sell 2 types the Z1 type and the Z900 type, the Z1 was slightly more expensive, very similar but without the lip underneath and the fit was spot on, however the Z900 one had issues with fit, hence they no longer sell the other one.
I'm therefore hoping fit wont be an issue.

If you decide not to go the replica route I might be able to help as I have a tank z1/900 that has been painted with a mural and sat on a shelf in the guys living room as art for 40 years, Its in my loft now and may be tempted to part with it.
