Z1000 R2 Elr swing arm

#1 PostAuthor: Stugill » Wed Oct 09, 2024 10:44 am

Good morning all.

I've got the swing arm off as i'm changing the chain and sprockets, as the swingarm is looking a bit rough i'm considering getting it repainted etc and this has led onto looking into; the needle bearing, sleeve and grease seal.

The manual mentions specific pulling tools and a driver to replace?

Are there any methods to remove and then replace them?

Cheers

Stu

I used a parallel punch to remove and carefully replaced with a block of timber and light taps. If it needs to be sunk below the surface of the sleeve on the pivot use a socket that is just the right size. you might not need to use the socket if the timber Goldie Locks! not too hard but not too soft!

Mark.

Thanks for that, did you just remove the seals and then knock it through, and out one end?

From memory ( it was during Covid) I am starting to doubt myself! Nothing new there!
I think I didn’t have a punch long enough, so I put a nut, washer and nut on a bit of treaded bar and put the washer through the pivot til it caught on the lip and then bet nine shades of shite out of it. I think I had to grind down the washer to fit in and left it a little Eliptical. Hope I’m explaining it clearly. The caps just lift or pop out the seals I routed out with a pick AFAIR. They were to be changed anyway.

Good morning.

An update, all good.

I've managed to remove it all with a combination of all the advice and I found that the collar had been damaged at sometime in it's past, hence hunting one down.

Cheers

Stu
