A tale of two Z1000's

that idea crossed my mind on another Zed i built, but for me just knowing the dimple was their would do my ed in for me the tank has to be perfect, but if it works for you then spot on mate,

i did do it on an XT500 i had many years ago, I did a fair bit of off roading back then and i upgraded the suspension in it, longer shocks and a front end off a DT125R, longer thicker forks but the yokes had less off set !!! the bike was great off road but a tad heavy for a dirt bike

I could have f*cked around with offsets but i want a rideable bike and the Gsxr1100 had a speedo spindle so i can run a standard Z speedo off it if i leave it as is..and sure you can barley see it when the bike is whole. its my 2nd build with the same style tank and a third to come soon.... i kinda like it.

I had it in mind to fit the B12 forks with the DL offset yokes to mine, but tried just the Bandit wheel in the standard forks and I like it, gives it more of a period look I think. and it still handles. i might fit the bandit front end down the line but i'm happy with it as is, it just sits nice and with the short LTD chrome mudguard

Real nice! i know ill be put on a hit list for saying it but the bandit 1200 front end looks like it belongs there, Gs1100E swing arm? same as whats on mine.

Bottom end rebuilt today, swapped the innerds of the 77 to 78 cases, APE heavy duty studs, new cam chain, o-rings etc. Everything was fine in the bottom end before the swap. Tomorrow engine in the frame and maybe get her back on her wheels.

no, i just have the one with the z1000 engine and my GSX1100, can't afford more than two plus no room.
I wish I kept the one with wire wheels and bandit engine though, one of my best builds. it was mint.

Finally got around to sorting the top end after what felt like forever waiting on everything I needed. Wossner 71.94 big bore, ported intake, Ape seals and springs, heavy duty retainers and cotters.

Engine is in the frame now, Wiseco 72mm gasket. Andrew’s cams and upgraded the cam chain, idlers and tensioners and Andrew’s cams. I’ll set the timing and finish off tomorrow.

Yesterday was spent figuring out a tidy way to mount both the standard z1000 box a headlight bracket for the 50mm forks. I basically used th bandit 1200 system and chopped it up and with some fabricated spacers everything fits snug and solid. The clocks are mounted from a custom laser cut bracket that fits over the standard GSXr yolks.

Yea mate ill take some photo but if you google "QSPS kz1000 fuel gauge" you will find them, there are super rare now and fairly costy. I got mine for about £35 a good while back, pitted and missing the lock cap. Iv a busted up one ready to do a bit of surgery to it. These go for arounf £250 4to £350 in japan at the moment, insane money for a petrol cap.
