Z1000a1 Alternator Rotor

#1 PostAuthor: Speedie » Sat Jun 21, 2025 2:12 pm

Hello all, I've just noticed that the outer body of the rotor is slightly loose on the inner that it is attached to. In frustration I've put some centre punch dings in it to firm it up. Having slept on it is guess this isn't going to hold it in place for very long?
I see ZPOWER sell solid new ones, and mention that this eliminates the 'cracking' of the rotor. I guess my problem is what they are referring to?
Any thoughts much appreciated!

please take note of the last paragraph

The Zpower ones are an excellent fix if you not confident enough or have the skills required

Thanks Keith, this is great information.
I was actually thinking of something along these lines, and this gives proper detail on how to go about it.
I have always wanted a pillar drill so now is my excuse to get one :)
Thanks for the reply!

Brilliant fix and definitely worth doing Keith. :D

I had this problem on my Moto Martin Z1 in the early 90's..... and with the small amount of oscillating play, the rotor friction welded itself to the alternator windings whilst sitting at around 7k RPM on the M6. The result was that the entire alternator cover, windings and end of the crankshaft (that snapped off) blew off onto my left leg and also onto the windscreen of a Austin Metro, and with oil pouring out all over my rear tyre it's an act of god that I didn't end up departing from the bike.

So yes, well worth doing
