gpz valuation
eveninig gents.
ive been offered a gpz 1100 83 model project bike. its the injected one, it has a set of gsxr usd and a jmc swinger. what do you think this should be valued at. its a non runner project bike abandoned, but in fairly god nick, with a recent 1170 kit?
cheers for any guidance

Re: gpz valuation
some photos would help in terms of condition however a non running early FI bike can be a bugger to sort out.
I assume its a B2 DFI version.

Re: gpz valuation
no its the later one a zx1100a1 one , not the square tanked b2, the one with the guage on the tank. #
its the swoopy looking one for want of a better description
i dont have any pics but its in one big lump, exhaust is off it, front end has risers, no front fairing, but the frame and light are there, condition of the rest of it id give a 6 or 7 out of 10.
a ball park value would do, to determine if its worth going for a look?
cheers

Re: gpz valuation
Sounds like an "unfinished" project. God knows whats cut off or if "fitted" actually means road safe (gsxr fork are notoriously to short for a bike like that unless it a gsxr1100 95 on). Half the bike sounds missing and there probably was a good (or bad) reason it was parked up unrunning in the first place. A tidy gpz1100 A1 barely scrapes the £5000 mark these days and it would have to be tidy for that. Right now its a bunch of parts stuck together so price it as such, start the bidding at £900 to a grand and him to throw in a ham sandwich and bag of Taytos for the trip home. Worse case is you can sell of the bike in bits and you wont be out of pocket.
P.s make sure the is a V5.

Re: gpz valuation
Thanks. It's got extended gsxr forks if it makes any odds.
Jmc swinger and new oil cooler n hoses (earls)
It's got a few new parts but would obviously need a proper going over.
Is there any common issues to look out for?
Apart from the crappy fuel injection?
I believe tanks are prone to rot, but not sure what else to look for.

To be honest if it were me looking at it i would ask for the engine to be striped down as far as the lower half so i could check the bore quality and insure the job as done right. All the fancy bits are a bonus but you have to stop looking at it as a bike and more of a rolling project. Photos would be handy... Fork extensions is a good sign, not someone who bolted on a set of USD and sai that will do. You will find less hassle to run carbs and ditch the injection..could be an awesome project, could be a mess. Get pics...

Re: gpz valuation
Bring a fridge magnet and place it all around the tank( it wont stick to filler areas). They are made of thinner steel to reduce weight cause of their size. Prone to rusting through in the bottom edges and dent easy so could be full of filler.

Go with the attitude of "look at the work ill have to do rather than whats done, take everything that's said with a grain of salt, dont buy on the day and come back and show us the pics and a price that asked. Happy hunting.

Re: gpz valuation
This is one of those head over heart situations. It doesn’t look like that engine has been touched to me so the first thing I would be asking is what proof do they have of the rebore? Do they have photos or receipts. I’m saying that it’s basically a non running bike with the standard front and back and missing it should be priced as such. The fact that there is a separate front and back end on it then can be added to that fact, if the seller still has the original running gear complete then bonus. Don’t get me wrong restomods can make really good bikes with the added edition of upgraded suspension and breaking but they have to be done right, like it’s how it was turned out from factory. You will have a lot of work to do in order to get that. So factor that into your price as well.

yeah thanks.to be honest, i wasnt intending on putting it back to standard.
ill go for a look and see what like, nothing to lose, but ive already got another 2 projects ahead of me so i might just give it a miss.

Re: gpz valuation
Yea mate, go for a look and walk away but show a bit of interest but not a lot, that might drop the price later on.

Re: gpz valuation
yup a DFI one.
I'd want to see all the FI bits are in place or you could go RS34s but as has been said cosmetically not great and mechanically suspect especially internally.
If I was really interested I'd want it to start with a 1 and certainly no more than a very low 2 - but that's me. As a comparison my Z1R with USD and single side swingarm that's had a rebuilt engine and RS34s I'd say is not worth more than £5K.
What is the vendor looking for ?
