Wiseco 1200 big bore

#1 PostAuthor: Mick J » Wed Sep 17, 2025 8:01 pm

Hi Guys, after some advice. I have bought a wiseco 1200 kit for my z thou special. I have an unnamed big block which I could use, or bore out a set of standard z1000 barrels to suit the oversized liners with the kit. Are there any downsides to running a big block on a road bike? Also, the last big bore barrels i had, were 1260 and done by NCK racing, they grooved the top of the liners for wire rings, presumably because the kit used a copper gasket, if I use a composite gasket, is it necessary to run wire rings? Any advice much appreciated, cheers Mick

I have a z1/z900 1200 block with large liners (not used yet) which have the grooves for rings which came in from the states and understand rings were used for high compression pistons in engins such as drag race bikes as they provided a much greater seal than ordinary gaskests . Am unsure what gaskets would be used or if you can get replacedment rings so i would like to know too.

Still have a copper head gaskit (z900) which was used with my RC1170 pistons which had high comprssion about 10.5/1 i think so depends on what compressions pistons you will be using.

Dont think there will be any issues using big block tho others on here may have more experiance but would be good practice to use uprated studs.

I think the wiseco pistons are 10.5:1 compression ratio, yes I am using uprated studs and nuts. Hopefully some knowledgeable person will set is straight regarding gaskets etc
