Instant Gasket Removal

#1 PostAuthor: tlc » Sun Oct 26, 2008 11:47 am

Sadly too bad to go out today so I`ve started on the carburettor rebuild on my Thou`.

Someone has used Black gasket Goo around the intake rubbers previously and I need to get rid of it before I clean the carbs up.

Any ideas on the best way to remove it ? Bearing in mind it`s on a rough casting so sticks like sh*t to a blanket !

What ive used before chris for this is paint thinners and a stiff nylon brush bit tedious but it worked for me.

hmmmmmm black gasket goo??? never seen it come in black, not that I am some sort of gasket goo spotter. ... but it could be silicone sealant?

you can buy silicone sealant remover in tubes, places like homebase sell it.

Yes it`s black silicone instant gasket. Thanks for the tip but I got some thinners and that seems to be doing the trick just now.

It`s also a lot more powerful than Red Wine :pist

Permatex "Ultra Black" is a top quality sealent made in the US of A....

They do grey & other colours too..... as used & recommended by Debben Performance... although they don't necessarily say on manifold rubbers

I also use the Copper Permatex on the barrel 'O' ring channel when using a 1-piece gasket
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
