Spark Plugs

I've recently switched from NGK to Denso IW24 plugs. Once she is running I can definitely state that she is much smoother at low rpm, in other words the lumpiness has gone. The trouble is starting, doesn't start on first go now and mostly the no. 2 gets wet and I have to take it out and clean it. Has anyone else had this problem or could it be something else???

As always any input appreciated.

Have you hot the number right ?

I thought they were W24 ESU

IW are the iridium type plugs.

Yes they are iridium, and according to the cross reference chart they are compatible, but are they ok for the Z900 engine?

They should be fine bigmac.
You might want to double check your carbs and maybe ignition coils/leads.
Maybe swap your plugs about to isolate the problem cylinder.

I run them Denso Iridium plug in me Black Zed... :wink:

I use the '27' grade (tad cooler running), and they are OK :twisted:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

That's reassuring about the plugs thanks LC. The no. 2 plug fouled up when I first got the bike a couple of times and since I rebuilt the top end (Monday) it's happened twice, so maybe I ought to look at the carbs. Not a scooby doo where to start with the carbs mind you, but I'll learn.

You`re a bit of a fiddler aren`t you ?

I did my carbs and had a misfire on No.2 afterwards.
Turned out that the main jet fell out in that carb :oops:

I`d have a look inside the float bowls and the slides, a complete strip really, but make sure you have the means to balance them after !

You might want to get some Dyna/hi-output coils if you need to replace/up-grade your ignition.
Also check that you're getting a good reliable 12v feed to your coils.

The bike shop I use has got an electronic carb balancer which also has other usefull functions and is really accurate.
I'll get the make/model so you can look for mechanics/workshops for something similair where you are.
