Air corrector kit should be used without the airbox i.e. individual filters e.g. K&N's If you keep the airbox then don't use the air correctors ! As for the points, a standard Kawasaki Z1000 electronic ignition from a later model e.g. a Mk 2 will work without much to do but I wouldn't expect much more power. The Z1R ran points ignition and had the same engine as your A2 and that bike had a claimed 90BHP (with 28mm carbs.) Mk2's with the revised engine and electronic ignition had a claimed 93BHP. If its really going to make much difference thats up to you. Some good quality individual filters and the air corrector kit with properly jetted carbs is probably your best option for a few more BHP with a free flowing exhaust.

getting rid of the points is just for more reliability not for any power gain, as to the air filter i was thinking no standard filter in the box, i don't have the "silencer" part of the airbox so maybe fitting a free flowing filter on their.

I always chucked the airbox in the skip - so can't really offer any advice - they sound better without one and no air box makes for easier removal of the carbs for jet changes and so forth ! You've got to remember we only got air corrector kits from around '79 and most Zeds were already out there before then ! Same goes for electronic ignition - arrived about the same time. Back then I used to put it on everything but its got to be said we saw plenty of bikes come in running on 2 cylinders with a failed pickup and a few bikes dead with blown IC units - so even back then I can't say it was 100% reliable. These days I take my chances with points if I can - at least you can usually fix something if it goes wrong but to be honest it almost never happens - especially doing low miles. A 40 odd year old electronic ignition -who knows when that one will fail. Again its got to be said that the Zed set world speed records and won countless races running on points ignitions back in the 70's. The airbox / jetting question might be worth a post on Bike Help though ? Some people swear by airboxes for "still air". There'll surely be someone out there who's already done exactly what you plan. It'll save a lot of work if someone can advise on jetting - not to mention saving on blue exhaust headers !

yeah i here what you are saying about the points, an easy fix.
but i remember 25 odd years ago on the first zed i built with pod filters, coming back from the streetfighters do at Sheffield it rained all the way home and my bike didn't like it !!!! ran like crap. but saying that i avoid riding in the rain now

Have you tried the V strom yokes for size ? steering lock etc as the Bandit yokes have minimal lock .

Dewalt multitool - serated edge cut off, 3M scotch pad - fine wrapped over the end, metal polish of your choice. Use “Mothers”, sometimes I start with WD40.
