Gpz1100B1 Odometer moving with ignition on!

#1 PostAuthor: MikeP » Wed May 13, 2020 11:16 am

This is happening on my B1 with the separate odometer box, probably the Z1000J too, where I turn the ignition on and the odometer can be heard to whirr and the mileage starts to click forward even though I haven't moved an inch!!

I've had a look through the original manual, which doesn't specifically mention the symptoms I've got, and before I take the unit off I thought I'd ask if anyone has seen this before?

That's a new one on me. It must be picking up a signal somewhere (short-circuit) that mimics the input signal from the wheel sensor?

They do have a really really noisy Mickey Mouse clockwork motor inside. It doesnt operate untill it gets the signal from the front wheel hall sensor. Can i suggest that a wire has been transposed!

Thanks guys. Rick was right in that the unit was goosed. Dunno why as it's been sat there since just before Christmas when I last had a blast, and then covid19 happened  . The gremlins must have snook in.

I checked the unit as per original manual and all seemed okay. Luckily I cut the original kilometre unit up and fitted the innards of a miles unit to get the correct mileage, and so I hitched up the bare kilometre unit and it didn't click on. Result :cool

Years ago Paul D sent me a spare unit so I could salvage the trip knob rubber and I've carved that one up with a small disc on the dremel and installed the circuit board and motor etc into existing unit. So all working and going to have a brief run down the road tomorrow to check it all works properly. Fingers crossed
