Wiring loom
the wiring on my bike is generally rough, the handlebar looms are both taped, did it come like that, it is neat.
Is it a straightforward job?
Its a usa bike and I've renewed the clock wiring, will that have different coloured wires to a new loom?
Thanks

Re: Wiring loom
Hi Adrian
after 40 + years it's normal that wiring looms are a bit rough...mind that there is a difference between the wiring of the handlebar switches between the US and the European version. The US version has no little 4 watt bulb in the headlight and the right hand switch has only two light positions, "on" and "off".
You'll have to find out if your bike has a US or a Euro main loom and switches or a mix of both.
Use an electric wiring diagram to find it out.
Good luck and mind the gremlins !!!! They hide in the smallest wires of a loom and appear suddenly when you expect them the least.

Re: Wiring loom
As Philippe says, there are a number of key differences in how the US bikes were wired up compared to Euro models. What bike is it?
I'm in a similar position with a US import J model. I want to simplify and renew the wiring, but haven't attempted a complete re-wire before and don't want to make a complete hash of doing it myself !
I'm sure you could make an off the shelf new loom fit, but but you will most likely need to adapt it quite a bit (unless it's specifically for a US model). In which case you might as well get a custom loom made in the first place?

Re: Wiring loom
Hi,
Its a Z1 1973, USA import , I've had the clocks done with wiring renewed from the clocks (extra wires for brake failure lamp ?)
Do I specifically ask for a usa wiring loom, I have ordered USA style handlebar switches with attached wiring harnesses

Re: Wiring loom
the h/bar switches/ harness are early Z1 style
Re: Wiring loom
May be best to ask Z-Power about this if you're looking at one of their looms ?
If you could get a US specific loom then I guess you're gonna be a lot closer to plug n play !

It was. I have no loom on the bike when I got it. Also Sven has just done this on his z1b.
