If it makes your search any easier, all cams from 1973 to 1980 on the "Big 4" bikes are the same, so the Z1, Z900, all the Z1000's and the Z1r's and including the Z1r-D3, Z1000 mk2 and ST up to but not including the J-motor as the exhaust cam has no worm gear but the intake can be used.

Hi 777EMU
what Z1streetfighter71 says is correct, you can use any camshaft you want, they're all the same but...take care of the sprockets!
Your bike, a Z1000A1 has a sprocket with 30 teeth.(Cranckshaft with 15 teeth, camchain 122 links)
The Z1000MK2 (A3 and A4), the Z1RII (D3) and the Z1000ST (E1-E2) have sprockets with 32 teeth! (Cranckshaft with 16 teeth, camchain 124 links)
So if you can find camshafts and the sprockets are still on them, count the teeth!
I have some camshafts for sale but the shipping costs to the UK are high and you'll have to pay import taxes...I think it'll be cheaper to buy them in the UK.

guys many thanks for advice , are the sprockets all the same mounting hole positions as i have my originals if i can swop them over?
Re: camshafts for z1000 A1 wanted
Hi John
as far as I know: yes they're at the same position, it's easy to swap them. Make sure you have the correct bolts and use a non permanent locking agent.

All the cams for the kickstart engines are the same 3 bolt fitting so just use your own sprockets to avoid any mix up.

Think I have a pair, let me dig them out and see what condition they are in after storage.
