Help at low rev's

#1 PostAuthor: Is Vic There » Mon Dec 17, 2012 6:04 am

Went for a ride Sunday and the R2 was great except at low rev's!
Basically under 3500 rpm she feels like she's running on three cylinders, but get her over that and all goes well.
Would I be on the right track on checking the jets and the HT leads, anything else I should be looking at?
Just serviced her and checked the valves all good, changed the plugs etc.
The one thing I didn't do was balance the carbs as I don't have the vacume gauges but this would have nothing to do with the stuttering problem or would it?

Your World of experience would be good :up

I would suggest a carb problem.

Mine ran like a pig at low revs until the carbs were ultrasonic ally cleaned.

I'll check the pilot jets, I would love to get them ultrasonic cleaned but can't find anyone that does that down here.
Am I best taking all the jets out and individually clean them by blowing air down or can I leave them in?

Yes!
If you have a blocked pilot or pilots then you should be able to indentify which cylinder is affected by starting the bike from cold and letting it tick over for a short while.
The affected cylinders exhaust will be cooler than the others and then you can save yourself some work by only having to clean the affected carb/carbs.

Nice one Zed1015,
I'll do that, while there out I may as well check them all but as yu say pay more attention to the suspect one.

As the pilot jets and their drillings get narrower from the back of the carbs to the tiny holes next to the slides , i've found better success blowing carb cleaner in the opposite direction to dislodge crap- a sort of "reverse flush". Difficult holding the flexible nozzle to the tiny hole, try cutting the nozzle at an angle and thin nosed pliers or surgical forceps, but worth it if you flush over a sheet of kitchen roll and see how much you get out

I'd go for a pilot jet too.

Well thanks lad's :D

Carbs our, carb cleaner in and then blown with the air line, did notice a allen key bolt on one of the car rubbers was lose.

Everything back on and tested, well, bloody hell, different bike!
She pulls like a train and when you open the throttle the responce is unreal, think I'll take the flat sides off the wish list, this'll do me like it is!
