Re: Cam gap - what's happening ?
Thanks, I'll get on the phone to Cradley when I get home and get a genuine one ordered up then.
I'm pretty certain I had the timing set up perfectly and it was only my stupidity that caused the problem, but if it's ok with you guys I will get back on here with a pic or two of how I've set it up, before I venture any further
Cheers

Yes! Correct.
Early Square type.
Early Square type.
Re: Cam gap - what's happening ?
Couldn't get a square profile slot valve, so later round slot valve on order from Nick at Suzuki Performance. Matching round keepers on order from Cradley Kawasaki. All should be here tomorrow or Thursday.
Thanks for the advice / recommend.

Re: Cam gap - what's happening ?
Ok chaps, I think I'm back to where I was before I dinged a valve.
Before I even attempt to put a spanner on the crank and turn it over, could I ask you please to check my work so I don't do something daft again.
The pics show how the crank is set ( on the 1-4 "T" mark), how I've aligned the exhaust camshat with the little "V" mark in line with the surface of the head, and how the two cams on the points cover side are sitting.
Hopefully that looks right and she's safe to turn the engine ?
I'll not do any more till I hear back as I don't want to nause it up again
Thanks
Paul

Re: Cam gap - what's happening ?
looks bang on i would be happy with that
Re: Cam gap - what's happening ?
Certainly looks spot on.
Just be sure you did count 28 teeth back from the next pin up from the arrow (i.e count the arrow/V pin as zero ) otherwise it will run flat as a fart.

Re: Cam gap - what's happening ?
Splendid. I'll go and check that my clearances are all correct now then. I'm sure they would be as it was just the one that I dinged the valve on that was out, the others haven't been messed with.
Yes, I counted 28 pins back zed1015, starting with number 1 being the pin above the one that the "V" points to.
The Boyer-Bransden ignition was on there when I got it Mr Pigford sir. What would be the benefit to ditch it for a Dyna S unit please ? ( you are probably noticing a pattern here, I.e. That I know didley-squat about these beasties !).
Z1bman: thanks, noted !
I' think I'm going to purchase some black anodised cam end plugs I think instead of the rubber stock ones. I did get some from eBay cheap, but although they look nice they don't even come close to fitting. Another Lesson learned ! I'll shell out and get some proper Billet or APE ones I think.
Anyways, as usual cheers for all the help guys

Re: Cam gap - what's happening ?
Looking up then, nothing wrong with the boyer system, i have used many of them in different bikes over the years, tech support is good you can phone them and speak to a person, i am biased as i used to live only 10 minutes away from them.
Re: Cam gap - what's happening ?
Yep, getting there Kev.
Checked the clearances earlier and all are in good shape, including the one that was giving me problems before and that lead to me bending the valve.
I am a happy bunny tonight compared to when I naused it up almost a week ago. Got a few beers on board to celebrate my boys 26th birthday too, so all good
Cheers !
