Coils

Chaps

On the z650 I have Accel coils- yellow cylindrical things. They each have the two connectors for the plug leads and two wires for the points and something else - I forget what.....They also have what seems to be an earth - a small black wire - which connects directly to the frame via the coil mounting bolt.

Out of curiosity, is my assumption that this small balck wire an earth correct, and why is it needed? I thought coils earthed through the points?

Some sort of earthing suppression?
Wiring diag says earthing is through points for primary coil, secondary coil earthing through the engine via sparkplug.
