Is it a part or foreign object?

#1 PostAuthor: warren3200gt » Tue Jan 18, 2022 6:25 pm

Z1000 j1. Engine top half was not fitted when I got it.
I've got the cases split and only the selector shafts still fitted. Whilst cleaning up the lower case I turned the case on its side and heard something drop on the bench. See pic. It's 75mm long and 2mm dia made of steel and covered in crap but not oily crap.
So I'm thinking its a foreign object and its not something I recognise. I can't find anything on the parts diagrams but need to make sure before re assembling.
Any ideas?

Something used to hold the cam chain while the engine was dismantled?

Hi
it looks like a part of a clutch push rod...not sure about it

Much too thin at a couple of mm dia to be part of a clutch pushrod Philippe.
Moizeau, who knows! I did find 2 cam chain tensioner pins in the sump when I took it further apart.
The only place it could have come from is the selector shafts or the associated parts that transfer the lever movement to the selector shafts.
All I have on the bench is the lower crank case with selector shafts and associated parts in the clutch side.

It's not from the engine.

I don't think so either. Given there is so little left assembled I was second guessing myself due to it not making itself known earlier in the strip.
Po's, every job is a new surprise. :D
