I'm slowly building a Z1000A1 engine from a pair of empty cases, and I've now hit a problem. When fitting the rotor/starter clutch, there is a need for a rubber spacer which sits behind the starter gear, it comes in 3 different sizes. But it appears to be no longer available. Therefore what have others done when this spacer isn't available? Do you run the engine without it, or are there alternatives??

There are a few on ebay but state side but it would probably work out less than Japan.

Re: Starter Clutch rubber spacer Not available??
You must not run the bike without one fitted.
As mentioned there are some on ebay etc or maybe a club member may have one spare.
If you don't know what size you need then buy the thickest one (8.3mm) as they can be reduced in width by lapping on a flat plate with some wet'n'dry..
You also need to make sure you get the correct one for the crank you are using.
The dampers for the larger taper MK2 and onwards cranks have a bigger diameter center so won't fit the earlier crank and vice versa.

Z-Power have the larger version in stock, but not those for the smaller, earlier cranks.
Those US prices are so much cheaper than here. Will investigate further. Cheers.

Thanks for the offer, your not too far away from me either. If I may, I'll wait a few days to see if a new one can be found.
Re: Starter Clutch rubber spacer Not available??
I endured -3 in my unheated garage today and measured the gap between the start clutch and the crankcase, and its clear I need the smallest 6.3mm rubber damper spacer for the earlier crank in my 78 Z1000.. cheers
