Here's one for you, after a 6 month lay off, rain! Got the bike out ,fired up after a while, lumpy, went for a burst, low revs lumpy, high revs flies ok, the two headers 1 & 4 get very warm but not hot like 2&3 , on tick over I can take off the caps and it makes no difference to tick over, thought it was the coil, changed it, still the same, running in Dyna S electronic ignition, what's the theory?

Dyna pick up? 1 & 4 pilots blocked? You can rule out the Dyna by timing 180 deg out (swopping feed wires) and swopping plug caps and see if the issue moves or not.

Hi Warren, I did clean out pilot on number 4 last week, no joy, there is a spark on 1 & 4 , I will check the fuel levels see if something not right there. The spark seems weak.

Re: Z1000a1. 1&4
I find that sometimes if you blow carb cleaner thru a pilot system, it won't clear the block because, going from the rear of the carb to the tiny hole in the carb throat just on the inside side of the slide, the channel get smaller so you're blowing an obstruction down a narrowing tube. I've found that if you do a " reverse flush" , using a flexible plastic nozzle on the carb cleaner cut at a 45 degree angle, and holding the tip with surgical forceps, you can accurately blow down the tiny hole and this then unblocks things better cos you're blowing down a channel that widens .

Does sound pilot related if it's been Stood David.
Bit of a faff but could you try the Z1R's carbs to prove the point?.

Hi Garry, hope you and Deb's are keeping well, I don't want to test my hands being sliced up for that, might just try and blow the jets through, modern fuel shite.

Bit of carb cleaner in the airbox will rule in or out any ignition issues and narrow it down to carbs

Well, I flushed with carb clean, and even used my compressor to blow the pilot through, still the same, 1&4 get warm but not to hot to touch, the spark does seem weak. baffled of Bolton

Re: Z1000a1. 1&4
So it is running on 1 & 4 at tickover?

Re: Z1000a1. 1&4
I'm not clear yet. Has the ignition been fully excluded as the issue? ( ie swop the dyna pickup feeds, AND swop the plug caps - put 1+4 onto 2+3 and vice versa . It'll still run , but it tests the opposite half of the ignition system - if the pipes that run cool change over too, its an ignition issue.

All good thanks, Yourself and the lovely Judith the same I trust?.
Interestingly the Turbo wouldn't start this morning, ALL four plugs had failed. They were all iridium as well. Put in an old set of NGK's and she fired first prod. Had plenty of failed plugs down the years but never all 4 at the same time?.

Re: Z1000a1. 1&4
Well, don't you just love these old bikes, 1&4 still not running right, 2&3 pipes get to hot to touch, outsides just nice and warm, swapped coil, no difference, plugs, same, swapped ignition leads and plugs caps, same so not ignition, must be carbs, took them off, flushed with cleaner, compressed air blown through, choke plungers removed, all put back, the same, cannot fathom it out, could it be fuel mixture? I've run out of ideas. HELP

Re: Z1000a1. 1&4
Have you got a colour tune David? That'll confirm mixture burn colour are all equal.
Timing to both coils the same?
Plugs all the same heat range? but that shouldn't affect header temps.
Only other thing that could be affecting temp readings of the headers is whether they are twin walled or not but I assume these are the pipes from our mate so can only be original.
Don't know buddy just throwing things out there for consideration.

Re: Z1000a1. 1&4
With all the stuff you have swapped it's either the carbs or an iffy Dyna pick-up .
Considering the fault affects 1 and 4 which is shared by the igniton it's unlikely to be the carbs.
To check the 1-4 (left) pick-up just swap the Dyna signal wires to the coils and move the rotor 180 degrees on the advancer.
This will make the right hand pick-up fire 1 and 4 and if the left pickup is faulty the problem will move to cylinders 2 and 3..

Hi Zed , I did swap over the left and right leads and plug caps, 1&4 still never got as hot.
