Warren...good idea in theory but I only have one original coil (the other disappeared in the passage of time). Is it OK to run one original coil and one Dyna S?

I don't see why not. They are seperate circuits for each coil so I don't see how they could affect each other.

The relay mod does nothing more than feed the coils with battery voltage so dont worry about that. As warren has said just put a/some new coils in cos one of em is buggared .....shit happens :)

Stencilled 08/ 20 is the production date and 3,500 miles is pitiful. If ZPower cant help i would speak to Dynatec Uk and they are the cheapest place to buy in the UK and get any guarantees that are relevant. They have given me discount each time i have bought if the item has not given the expected term of service and that has happened three time to date.
Original Dyna green coils would last 15 years but we didnt have 'The Wired George' mod in those days. When you get it running again i would check the peak output of the charging system. If you have excessive voltage bleeding through or spikes, the WG Relay will ensure it is fed directly to the coils and the Dyna 'S' baseplate with its pickups. Both are sensitive to either; over and under charging.

15% sale on that is applied at the checkout.

Fitted the OE type pattern coil yesterday and it fired up first time. Al, good call re the charging system. Now that I've got it running I'll check through the system and record the voltages and then contact Dynatek to see what they have to say. I've got both coils sitting on a felt strip to reduce vibration but maybe rubber strip would be more suitable. Anybody tried this, and if so what type of rubber/polymer did you use. I bought a modern rec/reg from Z-Power so would hope the volts to the battery are within tolerance. Will let you know what I find. Many thanks for all your help.

You need to mount the coils directly to the frame using the 2 bolts. The heat is dissipated from the coil core, the big metal bar running
Through the centre, via the bolts to the frame. You shouldn't insulate the core from the frame or it'll over heat and fail having melted the windings insulation and shorting the coil out.
I assume your Dyna coils were not insulated from heat dissipation?

You don't need any sort of vibration insulation or dampening.
Were the Dyna coils sitting clear of the frame bracket when bolted down ?
Using the stock coil spacers allows the body of the Dyna coils to foul the bracket which results in the steel core flexing when the mounting bolts are tightened that eventually causes the insulation to crack leading to premature coil failure.
When fitting dyna coils they either need longer spacers or a couple of washers under the original ones to space them away from the bracket.

Rob and Warren...many thanks for the advice which I will put into action. I had separated the coil base from the bracket with layers of felt to reduce vibration but didn't consider the issue of heat dissipation. Will now remove the felt and check for clearance between the coil and bracket. Again, many thanks.
