Starter Brushes

#1 PostAuthor: Skid Mark » Wed May 15, 2024 8:04 pm

I recently had to swop out a starter. I got a new spurious one but thought with three bikes using the same unit I Should look at getting it reconditioned, plus it would be original. Anyway I dropped it into an auto electric to see if they could do it. After about three weeks they recon then can’t get the right brushes. Starter brushes are too big and alternator brushes are too small. To be honest I dont think he was really arsed. So any idea where I can get brushes. The armature etc. is okay so it shouldn’t be rocket science to swop out the four brushes if I can get them.

Hi Mark, had a look at those brush sets there mega expensive for what they are, back in the day we bought slightly larger ones then from a car starter, as far cheaper then using coarse then fine sand paper filed them down until they were a sliding fit in the holder. Works perfect at a 1/4 of the cost. You may well have already sorted it anyway but may help next time.
