Sweating some solder up the split works and make sure the tube is cleared afterwards.

This I did, and although not pretty worked perfectly. I thought it had failed on carb #2 as fuel came pissing out when back on the bike but a couple of taps on the float bowl with the soft end of a driver stopped it. I'm guessing there was a bit of crap stopping the needle from closing off the seat. However worse was to come. See "Total start failure" on another thread.
